Spots...

Our summer got off to a spotty start when B caught the worst virus ever... Hand, foot and mouth. At first I thought she had the chicken pox even though she had already been vaccinated for it, but after a couple of phone calls to the Doctor the diagnosis was confirmed as hand, foot, and mouth. It all started on June 23... we had decided to head down to the fair in Del Mar but we didn't stay long because B was SUPER cranky. Poor kid had a fever by the time we got home and must have been feeling poorly all day. On the way home I noticed a few spots on her hand but I figured she must have just got a couple of mosquito bites or something. By the next day the spots were multiplying and her fever was still in full force. The spots kept coming for about a week and then took about another week to clear up. Hand, foot and mouth looks a lot like chicken pox except the rash isn't itchy and the spots are actually tiny blisters. They are most common on the soles of feet, palms of hands and the inside of your mouth. Luckily B did not get many if any in her mouth and only a couple on her face, right inside her nose... ouch! B got it really bad and couldn't even walk properly for a while. It was so sad! Even now she is still feeling the effects... three finger nails and one toe nail look like they are going to fall off where the blisters must have been underneath them :( It was not the best way to start summer but thankfully things have been better since then! We figured out that it all started with a couple of kids from nursery, and because of B it spread right through the family... including to Jewel right in time for her sealing :( and to Brett (yes yes, this is usually a virus caught by those under 10 haha)
